Shown here is the step-by-step art lesson plan of how to paint a Gannet. Materials used are water colour paint and mixed media. These are comprehensive instructions for a paced art lesson. They can be bought online at www.clairebotterill.com/shop Tried tested and highly recommended by Claire’s students are very popular. The clear instructions of how to use the water colour paint, brushes and paper lead to great results that you can view on this sites Blog post.
Students work This portrait of a dog in acrylics is in the party mood. A lovely coat on the dog painted with lively curls and texture gives a realistic impression. The fun of the portrait is in the Christmas outfit that the dog is wearing obviously in the Christmas spirit. Acrylic is a great medium for depicting texture which is shown in the stippled background leaving you to focus entirely on the dog and the spirit of the occasion.
Acrylics master class A two hour masterclass on how to paint with acrylics was held during Claires weekly classes in Warwickshire. We used 6 colours to achieve these results. A cerulean blue background was applied thinly then allowed to dry. The central area was a mound painted in a mix of lemon yellow, Ultramarine blue and Burnt Sienna for a dark neutral greyish green. The lavender flowers were a mix of Ultramarine blue, Process Magenta and white applied in dabs with several colours on the brush. The green foreground was achieved with a mix of Lemon yellow, Ultramarine blue and Burnt Sienna that was mixed for a variety of grassy greens and the greyish greens of the Lavender foliage. The colour mix for acrylics can also be used for water colours with just omitting the white.

Full Day Art Workshops

The day work shops I run in my studio are based on a variety of media from water colour, mixed media and acrylics.

The subject matter also varies from landscapes, seascapes, my signature style of seed heads, animals and much more.

You are guided on colour mixing, observational drawing, composition, tonal lights and darks. There are quirky, expressive, experimental ideas that we dabble with throughout the days painting.

You bring your own packed lunch and there are copious amounts of tea and coffee and I serve a home made cake or scones.(sorry to those of you who have certain dietary requirements)

All in all this day out for you is for fun, to focus on something creative and positive. Take home with you new skills to try in your next painting.

Bring your own materials. If you are not sure what you'll need I shall send a list and I stock a small amount of good quality tools and materials for you to buy.
